Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups self raising flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 330 - 375 mL bottle of beer
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or substitute

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C.
  2. Sift all dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. ( Sifting makes a lighter dough)
  3. Add beer to dry ingredients and mix into a shaggy but well combined dough.
  4. Grease a loaf tin and transfer dough to tin, use fingers or a spatula to force dough into the edges ( very shaggy, sticky dough)
  5. Melt 1/4 cup of vegan butter for 15 - 20 seconds in the microwave and pour it over the dough in the tin.
  6. Bake bread for 1 hour before transferring to a wire rack to cool for at least 20 minutes.
  7. Enjoy the croissant-like smell emitting from the oven.

Notes

  • original recipe uses 1/2 cup melted butter, but 1/4 cup is quite sufficient.
  • Try using different beers, pale ale, regular, stout, flavoured ale? Nikki Limo used a pumpkin ale in her YouTube video?
  • If you only have plain flour, don't despair. Simply use 3 cups of plain flour and add 3 teaspoons of baking powder.
  • You don't need to worry about the yeast because the beer is the yeast, Science!
  • Super easy recipe, can't recommend it enough :)
