Ingredients
- 2- 3 Litres Apple Cider or Juice
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon (4 quills)
- 1 tsp ground cloves (15 cloves)
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp ground allspice (15 berries)
- 1\4 tsp ground cardamom (7 pods)
Instructions
- Add juice or cider to a large covered pot, heat on medium.
- Add the spices as it comes to a boil.
- Reduce heat to simmer and cook for 20 minutes with the lid on.
- Use a strainer to decant the mixture, especially if using the whole spices.
- Serve hot or prepare ahead and reheat to serve in individual portions.
- Optionally : spike with a shot of rum or brandy.
Notes
- So, I use the ground spices because I'm suuuper lazy... But if you would prefer a clearer brew and can be bothered, by all means use whole spices.
- You can use apple juice for kids, alcoholic sweet apple cider for adults... I prefer the sparkling apple spritzer available at my local Aldi around Oktoberfest, that way it's good for everyone and I can spike mine with as little or as much of whatever I feel like at the time.
